Winegrowers from Brda are very satisfied with this year’s situation in the vineyards. The rain on Tuesday was particularly welcomed by vineyards in extreme locations, where the first signs of drought had begun to appear due to high temperatures. Together with winegrowers, the Klet Brda advisory service is carefully monitoring the ripening of the grapes in every vineyard. The sugar levels and the appearance of the grapes in many locations suggest that the harvest may as well begin. However, given the health of grapes and the weather conditions, experienced wine growers know that it is worth waiting. In years like this one, patience gives the grape vine the opportunity to express its full potential.
In its constant efforts to ensure high quality in every production phase, Klet Brda has invested in the receiving equipment. “The new equipment allows for full control over all the quality parameters of grapes. It cuts down the transport and processing times, the grapes thus travel faster from the crusher to the press, which is particularly essential with white wines. We also expect significant savings in energy consumption,” explained Istok Mikulin, head of the wine cellar. At the delivery point, winegrowers will identify themselves with a magnetic card containing all the necessary data about them and their vineyards (name of the vineyard, grape variety, number, age and spacing of vines, surface). This system further improves the traceability and the control of all phases from the vineyard to the bottle. At the exit point, the winegrowers will receive a receipt evidencing the quantity, the quality parameters and the value of the delivered grapes.
After four somewhat more modest seasons, this year Klet Brda expects to buy approximately 7,500 tonnes of grapes. On Monday, the management board of the cooperative will meet to agree on the prices, which will range from €0.43 to €1.20, with the average above €0.65.
Klet Brda is building its future on selling premium wines with a higher added value on demanding foreign markets. The harvest is an excellent opportunity for buyers to live the terroir where such world-renowned wines are produced. This year as well we will host distributors from the United States, China, Belgium, Poland and Italy.
The starting points for this year’s vintage are very optimistic, so the only wish left is that for dry, sunny and not too warm weather during the harvest.
