Klet Brda will begin harvesting the grapes for its sparkling wines (Pinot Noir and Chardonnay) on the last weekend of August, which will be followed by a short break in harvesting activities. The main harvest season is set to begin on 4 or 5 September. All the vineyards are in fine fettle and the grapes are healthy. They benefit from the warm days and fresh nights in this last phase of ripening, which will intensify the aromas of our 2016 white wines.
The white wine varieties will be harvested in the first half of September, with Ribolla Gialla taking its turn in the middle of the month. The red varieties will be then picked in the second half of the month, which is when they reach their optimal level of ripeness. Oenologists, agronomists and winegrowers use technical and organoleptic ripeness parameters for single varieties and carefully monitor the ripening of the grapes in each and every vineyard in order to determine the optimum moment for harvesting. Most of the harvesting work is expected to have been concluded by the end of September.
Klet Brda also makes good use of the harvest to raise its profile on foreign markets and strengthen its relationships with distributors. Andrej Valentinčič, Klet Brda’s sales director had the following to say: “This year, guests from the United States, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Poland all took up our invitation to come over. Understanding a territory through personal experience is an important marketing tool, especially in foreign markets, where Slovenia has been steadily opening new sales channels in recent years. Taking part in the harvest is part of the holistic experience we offer. We want our guests to discover all the things about Slovenia that make it great.”
