RebUla Ula and Krasno Syrah Champions at the 52nd Vino Slovenija Gornja Radgona international wine awards
At the 52nd Vino Slovenija Gornja Radgona international Wine Awards , Klet Brda once again confirmed its position among Slovenia’s leading wineries. Two of its wines—RebUla Ula 2025 and Krasno Syrah 2022—were awarded Champion titles in the still wine categories, reaffirming the estate’s commitment to quality and authenticity.
The achievement is particularly noteworthy because both Champion wines belong to Klet Brda’s broader portfolio of approachable, everyday premium wines, proving that outstanding quality can remain accessible. In addition to the two Champion titles, Klet Brda collected one Grand Gold Medal and seventeen Gold Medals.
RebUla Ula: Where Rebula’s Heritage Meets Ula’s Inspiring Story
The wine RebUla Ula is sourced from carefully selected vineyards that also provide grape for Klet Brda’s Quercus range of fresh, fruit-driven wines. Winning the Champion title confirms what many wine lovers already recognize: Rebula is one of the finest varieties for producing vibrant, fresh white wines with remarkable character.
Rebula continues to be Slovenia’s best-selling grape variety, while its international reputation is steadily growing, particularly in neighboring Italy.
Yet RebUla Ula is about far more than wine.
It tells the story of Ula, the cheerful little dog who has become the beloved mascot of Klet Brda’s wine shop in Dobrovo. Although she lost her eyesight several years ago, her curiosity, resilience and joyful spirit continue to guide her through life with remarkable confidence.
Her story mirrors the journey of Rebula itself.
Just as Ula learned to navigate the world beyond sight, Rebula has spent centuries adapting perfectly to the unique opoka (flysch) soils of Goriška Brda. These marl-rich soils force the vines to root deep beneath the surface, giving them resilience, vitality and an impressive ability to withstand the challenges of a changing climate. From this profound connection, Rebula draws the minerality, energy and unmistakable personality for which it has become renowned.
Both stories celebrate perseverance, inner strength and the kind of beauty that reaches beyond what can simply be seen.
The wine also reflects Klet Brda’s long-standing partnership with the Intermunicipal Association of the Blind and Visually Impaired of Nova Gorica. Through numerous initiatives over the years, the winery has worked to make wine culture more accessible while actively including members of the association in its sporting, recreational and community activities.
Krasno Syrah: Rare, Distinctive, Captivating
Contemporary Slovenian cuisine draws its inspiration from tradition, local ingredients and creative reinterpretations of classic dishes. It seeks wines that do more than accompany food—they become an integral part of the dining experience.
This philosophy gave rise to the Krasno collection, created specifically to complement fine dining in Slovenia’s leading restaurants. The range was designed for menus where traditional Slovenian flavours are transformed into modern culinary expressions.
The name Krasno comes from the village of the same name, home to some of Brda’s highest vineyards. Here, elevation, climate and soil combine to produce wines of remarkable freshness, elegance and mineral precision. Every bottle reflects a deep understanding of terroir and meticulous craftsmanship, from vineyard to cellar.
Today, Krasno has become a natural partner for contemporary gastronomy, with wines whose freshness, mineral tension and vibrant fruit elevate and complete refined culinary creations.
With its distinctive personality, subtle extravagance, herbal spice and beautifully textured palate, Krasno Syrah is particularly suited to boldly flavoured cuisine. It shines alongside modern meat dishes, where its complexity and layered character can fully express themselves.
The red wines of the Krasno collection are defined by supple, ripe tannins, vibrant fruit and impressive ageing potential while retaining freshness and balance over time. Their guiding philosophy is simple: to achieve the perfect harmony between grape variety and vineyard site, allowing each wine to express its origin with precision and authenticity.
