Sauvignonasse Quercus Stands Out at the Vinitaly Fair

The Goriška Brda Wine Cellar has introduced itself successfully this year as well in Verona at the Vinitaly Fair, which is one of the most important wine-related events in southern Europe. The fair took place from 8th to 12th April and in the first three days alone it achieved a great public success with more than 152,000 visitors.
The organizers are pleased especially with the number of foreign buyers (4.4% more than last year) from Switzerland, Great Britain, France, Austria, Germany, Hungary, Denmark, Sweden, Canada and Russia. The Goriška Brda Wine Cellar, as part of the Slovenian Association of Wine, has taken part in the fair for a number of years in row.

Year over year, it has been noticed that Slovenia has becoming an increasingly aspiring and fascinating wine-growing region. Above all, the most encouraging and cheerful is the fact that Italian buyers easily recognize Ribola and Sauvignonasse as distinctive Slovenian varieties of the Goriška Brda region. The interest for Brda's typical varieties has been proven by prizes, which were conferred to Goriška Brda wines at the Concorso Enologico Internazionale, an international wine competition. The results of the prize-winning wines were announced at the very fair. A Gran Menzione certificate has been awarded not only to Sauvignonasse Quercus 2009 but also to Pinot White Quercus 2009, Merlot Bagueri 2006 as well as to Merlot 2006 (wine and chocolate).

Chardonnay Bagueri Amongst the Best in the World

It is for the ninth time in a row that Chardonnay produced by the Goriška Brda Wine Cellar ranks among the best Chardonnays throughout the world. At the international wine competition "Chardonnay du Monde" in France, an international jury composed of 300 members judged 887 samples, 2007 Chardonnay Bagueri was awarded a silver medal.
Chardonnay Bagueri has all the necessary qualities of a winning Chardonnay: it is rich, full-bodied, complex, and mature with a specific note of ripening in oak barrels, says Darinko Ribolica, an oenologist of the Goriška Brda Wine Cellar. "In 2009 Chardonnay Quercus was conferred a silver medal, winning the jury over thanks to its freshness, fruitiness and containing minerals; while this year it was awarded Chardonnay Bagueri due to its winning complexity and full-bodied character," added the creator of the winning wines.
Apart from the mentioned prizes, this year Chardonnay Bagueri has already been awarded a gold medal at the International Wine Competition in Split (Croatia).

The Very First Presentation of Rosé Quercus Sparkling Wine Is Held in Perla

Dobrovo, Nova Gorica, September 9, 2009 - The presentation evening was held at the Calypso restaurant in Hit's Perla gaming and entertainment centre in Nova Gorica, where a new sparkling wine, belonging to the Quercus brand name, was presented yesterday for the very first time. The menu for the dinner, given on the occasion of the Nova Gorica municipal holiday, was created by Borut Jakič, a chef and international award-winning cook, while the new sparkling wine was presented by Zdenka Blašković, a professional oenologist.

On the eve of the Nova Gorica municipal holiday, the Wine Cellar presented a new wine in a range of the topmost Brda sparkling wines - Rosé Quercus Sparkling Wine. In order to emphasize its elegance, drinkable character as well as its universality, the Cellar put it on a par with the excellent cuisine of Perla's Calypso restaurant, which was characterized by the distinctive dishes of Brda on the one hand, and by the elegance of rose-based dishes on the other.
Rosé Quercus Sparkling Wine is produced exclusively from pinot noir, which gives the wine a delicate rose-pink, violet colour, plus the fruity scent of cherries, raspberries and berries. The aging "sur lie" has contributed to the balanced and rich release of carbonic acid, which emphasizes the sparkling and fresh characteristics of this wine. This fruity, elegant sparkling wine is not only an excellent aperitif but also a pleasant and drinkable dry wine, which will be served by sommeliers, cooks and gourmets also with several other dishes.
The Goriška Brda Wine Cellar has not only a long- established tradition of producing sparkling wines but also valuable experiences and awards. The Rosé sparkling wine follows Rebula and Quercus sparkling wine, which was awarded a gold medal in 2007 at the Verona International Wine Competition, which is known as one of the most important wine competitions in Europe. Thanks to its characteristics, the new sparkling wine is placed among the newest wine trends, but at the same time it remains distinctively and for certain a wine of Goriška Brda.
Considering that sparkling wines are becoming increasingly more popular in the wine market, the Goriška Brda Wine Cellar expects a high demand for it. This is why it will be available for sale only in Goriška Brda wine shops as well as in the best restaurants throughout Slovenia.

Chardonnay Bagueri Conquers Japan

At the Japan Wine Challenge wine competition in Tokyo, Chardonnay Bagueri 2006 won the professional jury over and was thus awarded a bronze medal, while Rebula Quercus 2008 received a recognition. Japan Wine Challenge, at which participated 29 countries with 1400 wine samples in July of this year, is famous as the most important wine judging in Asia.

As early as 2000, the Goriška Brda Wine Cellar has paved its way to the Japan market successfully, which is also the merit of the professional attitude of Japan distributors. A constant sales growth in Japan market has been sustained by the cellar by launching projects, among which is also the presentation of the Cellar at the FoodEx 2010 Japan Exhibition.

The awards obtained at the Japan Wine Challenge present a great support to intense sales activities. The awarded prizes can also be regarded as a proof of competitiveness of our wines throughout the world, notwithstanding culture diversity. The fruitiness, freshness and mineral richness of Brda wines are an excellent match for Japan gastronomy, which is based on fish dishes.

Dobrovo, 27th July 2009

The award-winning characteristics of Chardonnay Quercus 2008, which won over the jury in France as well as in Slovenia, were commented on by Darinko Ribolica, an enologist from the "Goriška Brda" Wine Cellar, as follows: "Even though we are talking about a worldwide variety, Chardonnay Quercus 2008 clearly expresses the Goriška Brda origin. Its outstanding characteristics consist of a determined temperament, which is well-known thanks to its distinguishing fruity bouquet as well as pleasant freshness. This is a harmonious, an elegant wine. Its scent has fruity notes and is reminiscent of apple, melon, peach and pineapple. Smooth in your mouth, this is a full-bodied and pleasantly warm wine. The rich, velvety flavours linger just long enough on the palette to appreciate them to their fullest."

The National Open Wine Competition, "Vino Slovenija Gornja Radgona," which took place from 20th to 24th July, is the most important wine judging in Slovenia, where a 24-member jury judged 766 wine samples. Medal Winners Are A+ White and A+ Red Wines

Dobrovo, 13th May 2009
At the Decanter World Wine Awards, the 2006 A+ White and the 2005 A+ Red wines were awarded silver and bronze medals respectively.
This is without doubt an important prize awarded at a renowned wine competition, where wine samples are judged according to the wine-producing region and price range. So this prize is considered even more important, as it effectively helps to promote wine sales. In the international market, the requirements are strict, and outstanding wines are not an exception any more, but rather a rule. The key element is therefore consistent quality. The success of the medals in the superpremium wine class adds to the vast range of prizes already awarded to the wines of the Goriška Brda Wine Cellar.
The two A+ Wines reveal the "essence of the Goriška Brda region". The A+ White wine is produced from Rebula, Chardonnay and Pikolit varieties, which are a synonym for the sunny landscape of Goriška Brda, while the A+ Red wine is produced from an uncompromising selection of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc varieties, which are synonymous with harmonious aromas and velvet maturity.
"The characteristic of any good wine is to attract connoisseurs, while the main goal is to fascinate them. And the A+ Wines do leave everyone standing open-mouthed," stated Darinko Ribolica, an enologist of the Goriška Brda Wine Cellar, enthusiastically in reaction to the awarded medals.

Vinitaly 2009 successfull with Chardonnay Bagueri

The Chardonnay Bagueri 2006, from the Goriska Brda wine cellar, has been awarded the Gran Menzione certificate at this year's Concorso Enologico Internazionale, the international wine competition, which took place in Italy. This competition involved judging wine as part of the Vinitaly Fair in Verona, where Chardonnay Bagueri won over an international jury of 105 members who judged 3669 wine samples.
The prize-winning Chardonnay wine excels due to its distinctive variety and the mineral extracts of the Brda territory. Its scent releases the rich aromas of mature fruit, vanilla, hazelnuts and spices, while its taste conveys enthusiasm thanks to its complexity and, long and velvet aftertaste.

"We are very happy about the award, however it was not a surprise for us, as for many years now Chardonnay Bagueri has been gaining popularity at important international competitions such as the Concorso Enologico Internazionale in Verona as well as the Chardonnay du Monde in France," says Darinko Ribolica, an enologist from the Goriška Brda Wine Cellar.

This year at the Vinitaly Fair, which was attended by 150,000 visitors, there were 9 wine cellars from the Goriška brda region. They took part in a successful promotion of the vine-growing territory and its showpiece - Rebula.

Chardonnay Quercus awarded a silver medal on Chardonnay du Monde

Chardonnay du mondeChardonnay Quercus 2008 of the Wine Cellar Goriska Brda was awarded a silver medal on the 16th Chardonnay du Monde competition in France. This is an outstanding achievement on one of the most important and strict wine contests worldwide- with a panel of 300 experts judging 923 samples from 37 countries.

Chardonnay Quercus 2008 is distinguished by a lively temperament, an intensive fruity note and invigorating freshness. The "silver shining" chardonnay pairs perfectly with Mediterranean cuisine.

»The most evident characteristics of Cahdronnay Quercus 2008 are its richness in taste and openness of the aroma, which reminds pears and apples. This Chardonnay clearly expresses the territory of Goriska brda", says Darinko Ribolica, the oenologist of the Cellar.

This year's award is the eighth in a row for the Wine Cellar Goriska Brda on the prestigious Chardonnay du Monde competition. This is a demonstration that the Cellar constantly pursues the highest quality. Moreover, it is a proof that the cosmopolitan variety "Chardonnay" has found its true home in the land of rolling hills of Goriska Brda.

Three Gold Medals in Sarajevo

At the 2009 Sarajevo International Wine Festival that took place from 19th to 20th February in the capital city of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the Goriška Brda Wine Cellar was awarded this year's first prizes.
The gold medal was awarded to Chardonnay and 2006 Merlot Bagueri as well as to 2008 Sauvignonasse Quercus. The international jury was won over by Bagueri full-bodied wines that are getting mature in oak barrels as well as by fruity and fresh Quercus wines.
This year, the Sarajevo International Wine Festival is being organized for the second time, as last year's event, organized for the very first time, attracted great interest of the expert public of Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as of the neighbouring countries.

VILLA BRICI - NEW FACE OF GORIŠKA BRDA

Likewise a man, also the wine has its own unique character. In fact, wine reflects a specific territory, climatic conditions, the people who handle with it, and last but not least it reflects the time in which it is produced. Nowadays we face the demands of frenetic pace and a more active lifestyle throughout the stages of our life. In response to the modern rhythm, the Goriška Brda Wine Cellar has produced new wines, the uniqueness of which stands in their simplicity, plainness, and their originality, which makes them extremely attractive. These are the characteristics of the Villa Brici wines that, thanks to the renewal of the form and content, reflect a new, fresh face of the Goriška Brda region. These wines are "easily comprehensible," they have a distinctive and plain taste, a pleasant and rounded flavour, and low alcohol levels. These are thus wines that "call for more" - considering of course a responsible attitude towards wine-drinking. The Villa Brici wines have been produced for pragmatic people, speaking from a gastronomic point of view. They are a perfect accompaniment to simple, Mediterranean dishes - a perfect choice when enjoying in a good company.

* Fresh, fruity, young and attractive. This is Rebula Villa Brici. It has a picturesque and refreshing flavour, and its smell distinctly recalls citrus, cedar, and acacia. It is a perfect accompaniment to refreshing salads, fish dishes, and spring risottos.

* Pinot Grey Villa Brici is plain, simple and trendy! It is pleasant refreshment in warm summer days, or a response to spicy food suitable at all seasons of the year.

* Chardonnay Villa Brici - a cosmopolitan in terms of its origin, a Goriška Brda local in terms of its soul. - The right choice for special occasions and nice people. It is the best accompaniment to spicy fish dishes and grilled vegetables.

Villa Brici Wines are a convergence of taste and customers' needs on the one hand, and natural resources and oenological knowledge on the other. These wines are thus the proof of how to live traditionally, but in a modern way.

* Youthfully determinate, full of energy. Merlot Villa Brici - a ‘guy' with a strong character. What attracts us is its ruby red colour as well as its pleasant smell of red berries. We are completely enchanted by its distinctive and rich taste. It is a perfect accompaniment to pork and game dishes, and an excellent supplement to semi-mature cheese.

A New Face of Goriška Brda.
